Oil on canvas.16"x20" Original painting by Michael G. Kent. 2017
Michael G. Kent is a twentieth/twenty-first century realist in the American tradition, somewhat influenced by Hopper and The Ashcan School--many of whose members claimed to be the heirs of Honoré Daumier.
He states : " My work reflects a taste for travel and strong narrative, beyond the obvious and the traditionally pretty--I cannot help not telling a story, plunging into history. I attempt to describe, squeeze out the secrets of everyday life, showing on one hand compassion for the characters and their settings, on the other a sense of mystery, of what lurks behind and beyond. Light and atmosphere play an important role in works which sway between realism and surrealism at times laced with humor."
